Elementary Level
Sonora Elementary primarily employs an inclusive model, in which students receive gifted and talented instruction in the regular classroom, based on their specific areas of giftedness. Students are encouraged to pursue specific areas of interest within the four core content areas through guided and independent research, develop leadership skills in areas of strength, and utilize higher-order thinking skills and problem solving techniques.
Junior High Level
Sonora Middle School promotes a pull-out program for students that qualify for the gifted and talented program. These students receive direct instruction that emphasize content in the four core academic areas, as well as arts, leadership, and creativity. Independent investigations, collaborative group work, and activities to enhance higher-order thinking skills are employed through this class.
High School Level
Sonora High School offers a differential curriculum for gifted students through a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) Education courses and honors class offerings. These advanced and challenging courses are designed to foster the critical skills of thinking, analyzing, and problem solving.
Regular classroom enrichment is promoted at all levels. This includes independent research, emphasis on problem solving skills, critical and creative thinking activities, and flexible pacing.
